School river watch on Sestra river

In May 2019, the team of SEVIRA project conducted the first school water quality researches on Sestra river. In early May, the nitrate concentration in the area between Sestroretsky and Primorsky highways, as well as in the village of Beloostrov was insignificant, in the range from 0 to 10 mg/l with maximum permissible concentration of 45 mg/l.

Field work continues

Since April 2019, the Institute of Limnology of Russian Academy of Sciences has started to collect information on the nitrogen and phosphorous content in watercourses of Seleznevka and Sestra rivers. Based on satellite data, the Institute will create maps of various types of underlying surfaces of these catchment areas.

Roshydromet published the results of hydrological and hydrochemical studies on Seleynevka and Sestra rivers. According to the data received, between November 2018 and March 2019 there were no cases of high and extremely high water pollution  the rivers. At the same time, scientists found out that a high level of metals is a common issue for both rivers.

The results of the latest hydrological and hydrochemical studies are available now on the website of Roshydromet. There were no cases of high and extremely high water pollution in the waters of Seleznevka and Sestra rivers. However, the content of metals in both rivers was increased: aluminum, iron, copper and zinc.

68% of the population of Seleznevo rural settlement are not satisfied with the water quality. To learn the anomalies that were noticed by local residents and the steps they are ready to make personally to improve the state of water bodies, please check the presentation.
