Friends of the Baltic and Russian representatives of HELCOM monitored marine litter on the North Shore of the Gulf of Finland

The environmental status of rivers and the Gulf of Finland, water bodies polluted with nitrates and phosphates, litter on the banks and microplastics in natural waters. These are just several topics discussed at the 19th annual conference of schoolchildren “Ecomonitoring of rivers, the Gulf of Finland, and the environment” which was held on October 19 in St. Petersburg. Both young and experienced researchers attended the event, thereby they shared their experiences and school kids learned the strong points of their studies and some tips for advancing them.

SEVIRA at EURegionWeek

Regional and cross-border cooperation strengthens ties between people from different countries. This is a good opportunity to get to know each other and make a common cause. When it comes to environmental protection, cooperation is essential as water or air pollution knows no boarders. One of the sessions at the EURegionWeek was devoted to citizens’ involvement in building environmentally friendly cross-border regions. SEVIRA project team was invited to share experience.

On September 23 in St. Petersburg's "Friends of the Baltic" and "Ecocentrum" hosted a round table on cooperation between educational, scientific and public organizations for the protection of nature. Participants find out about the past year results of the Friends of the Baltic programs and the programs of the new 2019-2020 academic year for everyone to participate.

On September 21, an Ecotrip took place along the Southern shore of the Gulf of Finland and meeting with local residents, dedicated to celebrating of European Green Belt Days – this year is a 30th anniversary of the European Green Belt international initiative.
